Green is More Than Just How We Build
When you hear the words “green” and “Seattle homebuilder” together, you may assume that the conversation is about how to build custom homes that use environmentally friendly materials and have a reduced impact on the natural habitat around them.
It’s true that Powell Custom Homes and Renovation is a Built Green member (www.builtgreen.net) and that we’re committed to environmentally friendly home building methods and practices that enhance our communities through leadership in sustainable development. But “green” is more than just how we build homes.
Owners Brooks and Todd Powell are committed to environmental responsibility that extends far beyond the greater Seattle area. That’s why they support the conservation efforts of their sister, Laurie Waller in the rainforests of Costa Rica.
Laurie is president of the non-profit Monteverde Conservation League, U.S. (soon to be known as Friends of the Children’s Eternal Rainforest), which is dedicated to raising funds, buying land and educating people in efforts to preserve the Children's Eternal Rainforest near Monteverde, Costa Rica. The preserve is the biggest private conservation reserve in Central America.
Founded 24 years ago, the organization was largely supported by small donations from school children around the world. Over the years other donors (like Powell Custom Homes and Renovation) have joined in to create a magnificent preserve of approximately 55,000 acres that is one of the best and most secure conservation projects in Central America.
At Powell Custom Homes and Renovations we’re pleased to be involved in efforts to preserve and protect our environment, whether it’s in our own back yard in the Seattle area—or in the rainforests of Costa Rica.
